What it is
The Illinois Prisoner Review Board is an independent quasi-judicial state agency in the United States that adjudicates matters of inmate release, conditions of supervision, and executive clemency. Its mandate includes conducting parole hearings for individuals sentenced under pre-1978 laws, setting conditions of Mandatory Supervised Release, reviewing revocations, and providing confidential recommendations to the Governor regarding pardons and commutations. It was created on February 1, 1978, directly replacing the former Parole and Pardon Board when Illinois transitioned from indeterminate to determinate sentencing.
