What it is
The Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) is a state government agency dedicated to protecting Hoosiers from discrimination and promoting equal opportunity. Its mandate is to enforce state anti-discrimination laws by investigating, mediating, and resolving complaints in employment, housing, education, public accommodations, and credit. Originating from the Fair Employment Practices Act of 1961, it was officially renamed the Indiana Civil Rights Commission in 1963 and substantially expanded its authority in 1965 to ban housing discrimination prior to the federal Fair Housing Act.
