What it is
The Indiana Library and Historical Board is a state government supervisory body responsible for managing and formulating policies for the Indiana Library and Historical Department, which encompasses the Indiana State Library and the Indiana Historical Bureau. Its mandate includes overseeing statewide library development, historical preservation, archival programs, and the state historical marker system. Established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1925, the board consolidated the Indiana State Library and the Public Library Commission under unified leadership, later directing the construction of the Indiana State Library and Historical Building completed in 1934.
