What it is
The Indiana Lottery Commission, officially known as the State Lottery Commission of Indiana, is a state government agency responsible for overseeing and regulating the operation of the Hoosier Lottery. Its mandate is to generate revenue for public initiatives, including local infrastructure projects and police and firefighter pensions, while promoting responsible gaming. Established in 1989 following a voter-approved constitutional amendment in November 1988, the commission officially oversaw the launch and sale of the state's first lottery tickets in October 1989.
