What it is
The Indianapolis City-County Council is the 25-member legislative body governing the consolidated city of Indianapolis and Marion County, Indiana. It is responsible for enacting local ordinances, approving municipal budgets, and overseeing local tax policies and public services. The council was established on January 1, 1970, through the historic 'Unigov' consolidation act, which unified the city and county governments without a popular referendum.
