What it is
The Iowa House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the Iowa General Assembly, serving as a primary legislative body for the U.S. state of Iowa. Alongside the Iowa Senate, it is responsible for drafting, debating, and enacting state legislation, approving state budgets, and considering proposed constitutional amendments. First convening as a state body in 1846 following Iowa's admission to the Union, it originally met in the Old Capitol in Iowa City before moving to the current state capitol in Des Moines in 1884.
