Massachusetts Republican PartyPolitical party

The Massachusetts Republican Party, commonly known as the MassGOP, is the state affiliate of the national Republican Party in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Its primary mandate is to organize party members, promote conservative principles, and recruit, support, and elect Republican candidates to local, state, and federal offices. Dominated by anti-slavery Whigs and Free Soilers at its inception, the party controlled state politics for decades following the Civil War before becoming a legislative minority that nevertheless produced several prominent moderate governors in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
