The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an independent agency of the United States federal government responsible for the civil space program, aeronautics research, and space science. Established to lead American space exploration initiatives, it succeeded the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). NASA achieved monumental milestones including the Apollo Moon landings, notably Apollo 11 in 1969, and continues to drive robotic exploration across the Solar System alongside international space station operations.
