What it is
The Office of the Governor of Georgia is the executive branch agency headed by the state's chief executive officer, tasked with enforcing state laws, directing the executive administration, and serving as commander-in-chief of Georgia's military forces. Originating in 1775 during the American Revolution, the position succeeded British colonial governors and was first constitutionalized under Georgia's 1777 constitution. John A. Treutlen served as the state's first constitutionally elected governor later that same year.
