What it is
The Office of the Governor of Idaho is the head of the executive branch of the government of the U.S. state of Idaho. The governor is mandated to enforce state laws, oversee the administration of executive departments, serve as commander-in-chief of the state's military forces, and approve or veto legislation passed by the Idaho Legislature. Established when Idaho attained statehood in 1890, the office evolved from the earlier territorial governorship created in 1863, with inaugural state governor George L. Shoup serving only a few months before resigning to become one of the state's first U.S. senators.
