United States · founded 1890

What it is

The Office of the Governor of Wyoming is the supreme executive authority of the State of Wyoming, supporting the Governor as head of the state government and commander-in-chief of the Wyoming National Guard. Operating from the Wyoming State Capitol in Cheyenne, its constitutional mandate is to faithfully execute state laws, submit biennial budget recommendations, approve or veto acts passed by the Wyoming Legislature, and make executive appointments. Established under Article IV of the Constitution of the State of Wyoming when Wyoming was admitted to the Union on July 10, 1890, Francis E. Warren was elected as the state's first governor, and in 1925 the office made national history when Nellie Tayloe Ross was inaugurated as the first female state governor in United States history.
