What it is
The Reno City Council is the legislative and governing body for the City of Reno, the county seat of Washoe County in northern Nevada. Operating under a council-manager form of government, its mandate is to enact municipal ordinances, approve the annual city budget and tax assessments, oversee land-use zoning and economic redevelopment, and appoint the city manager to direct municipal services. While the settlement was founded in 1868 with the arrival of the First Transcontinental Railroad, the modern City Council was formally established when the Nevada Legislature granted Reno its official city charter on March 16, 1903.
