What it is
The State Advisory Group on Youth Justice (SAG YJ) is a governor-appointed advisory body in California established pursuant to the federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974. Its mandate is to advise the Governor and Legislature on youth justice policy, monitor state compliance with federal core protections for incarcerated youth, guide the state's multi-year youth justice plan, and oversee the allocation of federal Title II formula grants. Formally created in California following the enactment of the JJDP Act in 1974, the group operates in close collaboration with the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) and includes youth advocates, justice-impacted individuals, law enforcement leaders, and judicial officials.
