What it is
The State Land Use Commission is a quasi-judicial state regulatory agency in Hawaii tasked with administering the state's comprehensive land-use law. Its primary mandate is to preserve prime agricultural and conservation lands while designating appropriate areas for urban growth through a statewide district classification system. Established in 1961 under Act 187, it made Hawaii the first US state to implement statewide land-use planning and zoning.
