United States · founded 1998

What it is

The Tennessee 13th Judicial District Criminal Court is a state trial court of record serving seven counties in the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee: Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, and White. Its exclusive judicial mandate is to preside over all felony prosecutions, misdemeanor criminal trials, grand jury proceedings, and post-conviction relief petitions arising within the district. Established by the Tennessee General Assembly under legislation enacted in 1998 to take effect on September 1, 1998, it separated criminal trial jurisdiction from the general Circuit Court docket to relieve heavy caseload pressures across the Upper Cumberland plateau.
