What it is
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) is a cabinet-level executive agency of the State of Tennessee responsible for driving statewide economic growth and capital investment. Its mandate is to attract corporate relocations, support domestic and international business expansions, assist small enterprises and rural downtowns, and administer state and federal community development grants. Established by the Tennessee General Assembly under Public Chapter 852 in 1972, the department consolidated disparate industrial development and state planning offices to spearhead Tennessee's successful recruitment of landmark automotive, advanced manufacturing, and technological corporate headquarters.
