What it is

The Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (TSBSWE) is a state regulatory board operating under the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC). Its statutory mandate is to safeguard public health and safety by licensing professional social workers, establishing qualifications and continuing education requirements, and investigating ethical complaints and disciplinary infractions across Texas. While professional social work regulation in Texas originated in 1981 through the Council for Social Work Certification, the regulatory entity was formally reconstituted as the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners in 1993 before being consolidated under the umbrella oversight of BHEC in 2020.
