What it is
The Utah Lieutenant Governor's Office is the executive constitutional office supporting the Lieutenant Governor of Utah, the second-highest executive official in the state. Its constitutional and statutory mandate includes serving as Utah's chief elections officer, regulating notary public commissions and lobbyist disclosures, managing the authentication of official documents, and succeeding the Governor in the event of vacancy or disability. Established in November 1980 through voter approval of constitutional Proposition 1, the amendment eliminated the historic office of the Secretary of State, transferring its duties to the newly created Lieutenant Governor and mandating that gubernatorial and lieutenant gubernatorial candidates run jointly on the same ticket.
