What it is

Virginia's Insurance Marketplace is the state-based health insurance exchange for the Commonwealth of Virginia, operating as a division of the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC). Authorized under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), its mandate is to provide an accessible online platform where individuals, families, and small businesses can compare, select, and enroll in certified Qualified Health Plans, as well as determine eligibility for federal advance premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions. Created by the Virginia General Assembly in 2020 through legislation establishing the Virginia Health Benefit Exchange, the marketplace successfully transitioned Virginia off the federal HealthCare.gov platform and officially launched state-run open enrollment on November 1, 2023.
