What it is
The Danish Customs Agency (Toldstyrelsen) is an executive agency under Denmark's Ministry of Taxation responsible for assessing customs duties, preventing illegal contraband smuggling, and facilitating compliant cross-border trade. It was created on July 1, 2018, as one of seven specialized agencies established during the major restructuring and dissolution of the former unified tax authority, SKAT. Danish customs supervision holds a centuries-long heritage tracing back to 1429, when King Eric of Pomerania established the famous Sound Dues on merchant vessels navigating Danish waters.
