What it is
The Danish Security and Intelligence Service (Politiets Efterretningstjeneste, PET) is Denmark's national domestic security and intelligence agency under the Ministry of Justice. Its primary mandate is to identify, prevent, and counter threats to the freedom, democracy, and security of Denmark and its interests, including counter-terrorism and counter-espionage. Established in its modern form on January 1, 1951, it succeeded the earlier wartime and post-war security police formations known as Sikkerhedspolitiet (SIPO).
