What it is
The Director of Public Prosecutions (Rigsadvokaten) is the head of Denmark's public prosecution service (Anklagemyndigheden). Operating under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Justice, the institution oversees criminal proceedings, issues prosecution guidelines, and conducts criminal cases before the Supreme Court of Denmark. It was established in 1919 when the landmark Administration of Justice Act separated the prosecution and executive law enforcement from the independent court system.
