What it is
The Constitutional Court of Portugal (Tribunal Constitucional) is the supreme constitutional jurisdiction of the Portuguese Republic, tasked with assessing the constitutionality of laws and international treaties. It also oversees electoral processes, registers political parties, and scrutinizes the financial declarations of public officials. Created during the first major constitutional revision of 1982 to replace the military-dominated Council of the Revolution, the court officially commenced operations in Lisbon's Ratton Palace in 1983.
