What it is
The General Secretariat of Internal Administration (Secretaria-Geral da Administração Interna) is a central government body within Portugal's Ministry of Internal Administration. It is responsible for providing technical, legal, financial, and logistical support across the ministry, as well as managing national electoral administration and institutional archives. While the overarching ministry traces its lineage back to the Secretariat of State for Interior Affairs of the Kingdom established in 1736, the contemporary department was created in 1974 following the reorganization of the Ministry of the Interior after the Carnation Revolution.
