The Government of Portugal is the executive body and supreme public administration authority of the Portuguese Republic, headed by the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. It is mandated to conduct the general policy of the country and oversee public administration in accordance with the national constitution. Established in its modern democratic form under the Constitution of 1976 following the 1974 Carnation Revolution, it replaced the authoritarian Estado Novo regime.
