What it is
The Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira is the unicameral parliament and legislative body of Portugal's autonomous region of Madeira. Its mandate includes enacting regional legislation, approving the regional budget, and exercising political scrutiny over the Regional Government. Established in 1976 under Portugal's post-Carnation Revolution constitution, it held its first legislative elections that same year. Since 1987, it has been headquartered in the restored 16th-century Old Customs House (Alfândega Nova) in Funchal.
