What it is
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is a department of the Government of Portugal responsible for formulating, executing, and evaluating national public policy regarding agriculture, rural development, forestry, and fisheries. Initially established as an independent Ministry of Agriculture in 1918, it was first organized specifically under the name Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in 1975 following the Carnation Revolution. Throughout modern Portuguese administrative history, it has frequently been restructured and re-merged with forestry, rural development, and maritime portfolios.
