What it is
The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (Ministério da Educação, Ciência e Inovação) is a central government department of Portugal. It is responsible for developing, directing, and executing national policies across basic, secondary, and higher education, as well as scientific research, technology, and innovation. The portfolio traces its roots back to 1870 when a dedicated education ministry was briefly established, before being definitively created in 1913 during the First Portuguese Republic as the Ministry of Public Instruction.
