What it is
The Inspectorate-General of Finance - Audit Authority (IGF) is Portugal's central internal audit and financial control body operating under the Ministry of Finance. Its mandate encompasses auditing and strategic financial supervision across the public administrative sector, state-owned enterprises, local authorities, and national management of European Union funds. Established in April 1930 to replace the earlier Inspection of Public Finance, it later absorbed the responsibilities of the General Inspectorate of Local Administration in 2012 to centralize public sector oversight.
